One of my goals this year was to practice more self love. In the past I didn’t do a lot of self care, except for the basics, ya know, smell nice, have clean clothes, etc. I didn’t focus a lot on my appearance because, well for one, I didn’t know much about makeup and because I just didn’t care. If my hair wasn’t crazy and I smelled nice then that was good enough for me.
This year something inside me changed. I had my second son and I started to feel like I was treading water. I sat back, took stock and realized I needed to give myself time to practice self care in the morning and at night, to better take care of my family.
You know the quote floating around the internet that goes along the lines of, “you can’t love others if you don’t love yourself first”? I have found it be so true.
Since I have been taking 10 – 15 minutes for myself, I have seen a change in how I feel. Instead of feeling crummy, I have more self confidence which is exactly what I want to teach my boys to have, how can I teach self confidence if I don’t have it myself?
I know that is kind of heavy and deep for something so simple as castor oil but it is the true rhyme to my reason and I wanted to share that with you.
I knew I wanted to grow my eyelashes out but didn’t know where to start. Two months ago I literally searched amazon for “eyelash growth serum” and started reading and reading reviews and finally landed on this castor oil.
I choose this one for a couple of reasons,
It is certified USDA organic, check out the linked fact sheet for cosmetic products labeled organic.
It is has a 4.6 star customer review, 2,793 reviews, 92% of those reviews are 4 and 5 stars. Those are some killer reviews!
I did more research on the benefits of castor oil and learned all about using it to promote hair growth. This website was the most informative that I found, it talks about what is in castor oil, how it promotes healthy growth and even how to apply it!
The price per ounce was appealing. This castor oil is 2.88oz at $9.99 which comes to $9.99/2.88oz = 3.47 dollars per ounce. Which isn’t bad when compared to other lash serums at $50 for just 2 milliliters. There are about 30 ml in one ounce, you would have to spend $750 worth of a lash serum to get one ounce. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take $10 over $1500 for 2 ounces. I don’t even care it will probably go bad before I can use all of it, I’ll buy a new bottle and still be saving money!
With all my fact checking and research, I bought it and started using it. I made sure to apply it after I had washed my face completely clean. I applied it to both my eyebrows and eyelashes.
Note, you will not see immediate results. Hair takes time to grow, be faithful and apply it everyday before you go to bed and one day you will see the amazing results like I did!
I literally looked in the mirror one night and let out an audible gasp because I had never seen my eyelashes so long!
My eyebrows have also grown in and I have been able give them more shape which has been wonderful. The one eyebrow that was almost half white, grew in some darker hairs and doesn’t look too sparse anymore!
I promise I am not wearing falsies, this is what two months of using the castor oil has done for my lashes!
So there you have it, my April favorite is castor oil. It will forever be a part of my ever blossoming beauty routine. If it becomes part of yours tell me on social media! You can connect with me over on instagram @thewhistlingbluebird, come say hi!
Thank you for allowing me to share my little journey of gaining more self confidence through taking care of my appearance. I know it might seem silly but it really has lifted my confidence and helped me to be happier.
If you are like me and have a hard time giving yourself permission to take time for yourself then this is me giving you permission to be a little selfish tonight. Run that bath and soak for a while or pull out your spin brush and give your skin some loving. You are beautiful and deserve to feel it everyday, even if you don’t have a full face of makeup on.
*I also want to put the disclaimer out there that I am no beauty guru whatsoever. I am simply a girl trying out new products to learn how to take care of myself in a better way.*
